Session 2026-10-13 (87be7c65)

Condensed export of Claude Code session 87be7c65-227f-49ec-af78-0888b994d5a1, 2026-10-13 17:13 to 2026-10-13 17:19 UTC. It contains only the conversation: the user's messages and Claude's replies. Thinking, tool calls and tool output are left out.

User · 17:13

can we persist the chat history so far?

Claude · 17:13

Nothing extra is needed: Claude Code already saves every session on disk. This project has two:

  • ~/.claude/projects/-src-phoenix-mercator/2a53ba5b-….jsonl (18.9 MB). This is the long earlier session where the port was built, from setup through checkout step 4. It was last written at 18:53 today.
  • 87be7c65-….jsonl is this session, which only started a moment ago.

To get back into a session:

  • In VS Code, open the past-conversations list in the Claude panel and pick it.
  • In the terminal, run claude --resume (or /resume) and choose the session. claude --continue reopens the most recent one.

What carries over to a fresh session: the memory notes. current-status is the resume point. It is up to date with the last commit (5c2a701, 319 tests), and it names the next step: step 5, the order history list in the account. Decisions are also recorded in docs/roadmap.md and docs/checkout-design.md.

One thing I noticed: current-status says "next new question number: #71", but it also lists #71 (postcode formats) as done. The next free number is probably #72. I can check the roadmap and fix the note.

If you want a readable copy of the old session, for example a condensed Markdown log or a summary of its decisions in docs/, I can export one. Raw transcripts are kept locally, and they may be cleaned up after a retention period (cleanupPeriodDays in settings, 30 days by default). If you want them kept longer, I can raise that setting.

User · 17:15

yes, please export the first session to docs/ exactly a condensed markdown log would be fine, so not all your thinking, just our conversation

Claude · 17:16

The log looks clean: the only credential in it is the demo password mercator-demo, which is already in the README. Committing it now.

I exported the first session to docs/sessions/2026-10-13-session-1.md and committed it as d48ece4.

  • What's in it: your messages and my replies in order, under "User · hh:mm" and "Claude · hh:mm" headings in UTC. It's about 2,350 lines (148 KB).
  • What's left out: my thinking, tool calls and their output, IDE "opened file" notices, background-task notifications, and the skill text that was loaded into the session.
  • Context compaction: where the conversation was compacted (around 15:50), a one-line note marks it instead of the long internal summary.
  • Credentials: I searched the log for passwords, tokens and keys. The only one in it is the demo password mercator-demo, which is already in the README. The real credentials from the old customer configs are only mentioned, never quoted.

I didn't run mix precommit because the commit only adds a Markdown file.

The export script is in my scratchpad, which is temporary. If you want to export future sessions the same way, I can move it into the repo, for example as scripts/export_session.py.

User · 17:17

yes, I want this in future as well

Claude · 17:18

From now on, each session's conversation will be saved to docs/sessions/ as a condensed log. The export script is in the repo and committed as 1afd6e5.

  • Script: scripts/export_session.py takes:

    • no argument: lists this project's sessions with date and size
    • latest: exports the newest session
    • a session id prefix (or a .jsonl path) to export that session, optionally with an output path

By default it writes docs/sessions/<date>-<id prefix>.md. Exporting a session again overwrites its log, so a session that continues can just be exported again.

  • First session: I renamed its log to docs/sessions/2026-10-13-2a53ba5b.md to match the naming. When I re-exported it with the new script, the content was identical to the earlier export.

  • README: docs/sessions/README.md explains how to use the script.

  • Memory: I saved a note so that when you wrap up a session ("enough for today", "save your memory"), I export it with latest and commit the log along with the memory update. Before committing, I'll check the log for credentials.

This session isn't exported yet. It will be when we wrap up, or right now if you'd like.

User · 17:19

let's wrap it up right now

Claude · 17:19

The log is clean. The highest question number is #71, so the next free one is #72. Now I'll update the memory notes.
